Featured Hospital San Joaquin Community Hospital
Bakersfield, California
Interview with: Linda Lowrey
Staffing Coordinator
San
Joaquin Community Hospital is great because it is like being in a small
community where everyone cares about and supports each other. This is
most evident when one of our family has a problem – there is always
someone ready to help, whether it is to lead a prayer or help in a more
tangible way.
This
Christmas, the hospital started a Family at Home program. Hospital
departments helped staff members who were struggling. One person in need
asked for help to repair her washing machine. The employees who
“adopted” her family worked with a local appliance company and the
result was the company sold them a washer and dryer at cost. Another
group of employees helped a couple with the expenses to get married,
paying for the license and helping buy rings.
The
way people care for each other is a beautiful thing to see here!
Many
people don’t realize that Bakersfield is such a wonderful place! I
love seeing the reaction from the travelers when they find out that
Bakersfield is a great place to live. Bakersfield is a
"big/small" town – it feels small, but has many of the
amenities of a city and that surprises a lot of people. One of the
travelers said Bakersfield is fantastic for the day-to-day life yet
almost anything you want is close. If you want the big city, you can be
in Los Angeles in an hour. If you want mountains - also one hour and if
you want ocean, it takes just over one hour to get there!
Watching
the travelers meet other people and develop new relationships is also
fun. In fact one of the girls is getting married soon!

Working with Travel Nurse across America
makes my job fun and easy. Dane
Hawkins is always available to me, always knows the answers and if
something needs to be taken care of, it is done right the first time.
The staff members whom I have
talked to on the phone are great as well.
