Affectionately known as “The Med," The Regional Medical Center in Memphis is Tennessee’s oldest hospital. That kind of enduring success speaks volumes about the hospital's commitment to providing patients with the best service available. The Med has trained more than half of Tennessee's medical professionals through its affiliation with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

The Med is well-known for its commitment and dedication to community through a variety of outreach programs. Two of the most heralded are The Adult Special Care Center, which has been designated as a Center of Excellence by the State of Tennessee Department of Health, and the Sunrise program. The Adult Special Care Center provides treatment for HIV positive patients, where they receive the highest standard of care. Individualized treatment is available for the whole person, addressing medical, psychosocial, nutritional, and financial needs. Patient education is also part of the treatment program and is available to designated family and friends as well. The Sunrise program, a community outreach program for pregnant teens, is improving the lives of pregnant teens in Shelby County. Following the birth of their children, mothers return for classes on basic parenting skills. The Med also offers a Burn Outreach, Trauma Outreach and has been a pioneer in research and treatment of Sickle Cell disease since 1929 via The Diggs Kraus Sickle Cell Center.
