Most associate San Diego with beautiful weather, sandy beaches, and of course the world famous San Diego Zoo. But there is more to “America’s Finest City” than just the 70 miles of spectacular coastline, perfect climate, and wonderful tourist attractions.

Relatively free from smog and byzantine freeways, San Diego is set around a gracefully curving bay and encapsulates a unique culture in southern California. The second largest city in California may be affluent and conservative, but it’s also easygoing and far from smug. It was the site of the first mission in California, but the city really took off with the arrival of the Santa Fe Railroad in the 1880s. San Diego had long been in the shadow of Los Angeles, but during World War II the US Navy made San Diego its Pacific Command Center, increasing trade and its significance. The military continues to influence the local economy today, along with tourism.

San Diego has something for everyone to enjoy! From water sports to hiking in the backcountry, concerts on the bay, botanical gardens, sightseeing tours, and wine tasting…San Diego has it all! Major tourist attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and Legoland are staples of San Diego vacations and should not be bypassed. However, there is just as much to do off the beaten path! Enjoy a day paddling along the La Jolla shores in a kayak, or delight in a breathtaking coastal view from Torrey Pines State Reserve.
