Canoe the Weeki Wachee, drive 30 minutes to beautiful Hernando Beach or kick back and enjoy a warm evening filled with cool jazz. Along the Weeki Wachee river an observant paddler will see many types of animals including the famous Florida (West Indian) manatee, alligators, raccoons, otters and numerous birds. Approximately 8 miles later the Weeki Wachee River meets the Gulf of Mexico near the small village of Bayport. Herando Beach Park is a gorgeous 135 acre area that overlooks the Gulf. Swimming, fishing, grilling or just kicking back in a beach chair with a good book, a cold drink and a pair of shades. Ahhhh...the good life. This area is one of the best kept secrets of Florida. Small enough to be laid back but close enough to everything you want.
